Vehicles are not protected from weather and road conditions and may accumulate a bit of dirt during their journey, which is to be expected.

Enclosed car carrier for auto transport

ENCLOSED car shipping

Enclosed transport is ideal for classic, exotic, or luxury cars, as well as motorcycles and powersports. It's also necessary for vehicles with low ground clearance, as they may need a hydraulic lift gate or ramp for loading onto the truck. Frequently asked questions

What do I need to arrange my car shipment to or from Hawaii?

To ship your vehicle to or from Hawaii, you only need the year, make, and model of your vehicle and the VIN, color, and license plate number (newly purchased cars excluded.) Hawaiian ports require all vehicles to have a representative over 18 with a valid ID for pickup.

Payments for all shipments to and from Hawaii are through a credit card or PayPal.

When booking your auto shipping to Hawaii, Convoy provides real-time vehicle tracking through our Shipping Advisors or via email for all of our shipments.

For liability reasons, it is illegal to leave personal items inside a vehicle during shipment. All vehicles undergo a thorough inspection at the port prior to shipment to ensure all personal items are removed. If you’re unable to remove these items, the carrier will reject your car at the port. The only items allowed to remain within the vehicle are jumper cables, a jack, a spare tire, and installed infant or child car seats.

No additional paperwork is required when shipping a vehicle from the mainland to Hawaii. However, when transporting a vehicle from Hawaii to the mainland, you must present the following paperwork:

  • For financed or leased vehicles, you must provide a lien holder letter releasing the car for transport to the mainland on a notarized official letterhead. Please note that all notarized paperwork is only valid for 30 days after the issue stamp date.
  • For vehicles owned outright, you must present a copy of the registration and title.
  • The vehicle’s owner must be the shipper, and proof of ownership and a valid photo ID are required.
  • When two owners are listed on the vehicle’s title, both must appear with photo identification, or the missing party must provide a notarized consent form authorizing shipping.

Although the ports are uncovered, your vehicle is stored beneath the ship’s dock for protection during transport.

To pick up your vehicle from the port, you will only need your booking number, which a Convoy representative will provide once your shipping service is scheduled.

At Convoy, we do offer door-to-door shipping to Hawaii. We pick up your vehicle at your chosen location and deliver it to your chosen port. When shipping a vehicle to the mainland from Hawaii, we offer two options:

  • We also provide port pickup, where you meet your vehicle at the port for pickup. Depending on your location, port pickup may be available on the mainland as well, saving you extra money.
